The gap is widening

Newsweek reported that migrant crossings have dropped 55%. This despite Donald Trump’s tanking the bipartisan bill that would have provided necessary assistance. Though Kamala Harris seems to be separating herself from President Biden in many areas, this is one she needs to embrace. Immigration is still a vital issue for voters, and Trump continues to use it as his bullhorn. Trying to help Trump, Lindsey Graham appeared on State of the Union with Jake Tapper Sunday. These news stations that are engaging in instant fact-checking are trying to be helpful, but most people aren’t listening, especially Trump supporters. For the rest of us, showing a liar for a liar is good. We don’t want or need liars in public office.

Like his “mentor” Trump, Graham claimed that Vice President Harris is the main problem when it comes to migrant crossings and crime. Graham claimed that over 400,000 thousand have crossed the border, with many of them being criminals. This is what we call “politics of fear,” and Trump and his allies are all in, including Graham who knows better. Jack Tapper told Graham that his statistics were “decades old” and reminded him that many came in under Trump’s watch. The [nonpartisan] Brennan Center said in May 2024: “Numerous studies show that immigration is not liked to higher levels of crime, but rather the opposite.” Look, politics of fear have been around for a long time; however, Trump and his allies take it to a higher level. Harris has nothing to do with any of this. Instead of addressing their lies, she is, instead, focused on her own campaign.

Harris continues to build her coalition that includes Republicans disenchanted with Trump and his lies. The Independent reported that three “prominent Republicans put country over party” when they publicly endorsed Harris. Former Senator Nancy Kassebaum was joined by former Insurance Commissioner Sandy Praeger and retired federal judge Deanelle Reece Tacha (Reagan appointee), all of Kansas. Part of their official statement follows: “We fervently believe that we must do our part to try to build a brighter future, which is why we will be voting for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in this election. We believe they most closely align with the aspirations of Kansans and reflect our rich history of working together ‘to the stars’ through difficulty.” They were joined on Sunday by former Arizona Senator Jeff Flake. Flake’s official statement read: “I’m a conservative Republican who had the honor to serve my home state of Arizona in the United States House of Representatives and Senate for nearly two decades. I believe that America is a great country. I believe that our best days lie ahead. I want to support a candidate for President who believes the same.”

People have tired of Trump’s “doom and gloom” politics. He does nothing but degrade our beautiful country and its people, especially if they’re brown. The U.S. has always been the greatest country in the world-and it still is-no matter how much Trump disparages it. If he thinks it’s so bad, why is he running? Matter of fact, why is he still here?
