It is usually no good trying to keep secrets. Many secrets are already known. They’re known to the night, of course, where secrets go to hide and where they hope no one will catch them. But somebody always does.

Kevin McCarthy is a fascinating example of self-sabotage and secrets. Here is a man who is (supposed) to be intelligent. Many Republicans would likely say he is. How then is he managing to screw himself THIS badly? McCarthy obviously lies. But the depth of his thundering stupidity keeps amazing us.

Cassidy Hutchinson testified that Kevin was busy on the phone the day of the insurrection. He was busy telling people not to let Trump come to the Capitol. Another little morsel, dear Kev, held back. The question is — why.

HOW is any one person THIS stupid? Did the man really not think we’d find all his closeted skeletons? Did he think the committee was done with him? Is he THAT obtuse?

McCarthy is obviously terrified of Trump’s wrath. Now he will have to face it. And what of his testimony? I believe sooner or later, his name just might be referred for contempt. He’s in it too deep. He’s part of it. He’s now aiding and abetting a monster — a monster who, as it turns out, was a bigger danger than anyone could possibly have known.

Kevin McCarthy is doomed. He will be collateral damage in all this. But make no mistake, he had the ability to do the right thing. Donald Trump did not ruin Kevin. Kevin McCarthy ruined Kevin. There is no doubt about that.
