We need to talk about Merrick Garland. Garland has a history. And that history is of conducting his investigations in deafening silence. Garland has prosecuted many. But according to his Senate questionnaire, he said the two cases that were the most important to him were Unabomber Theodore Kaczynski and Timothy McVeigh: “I’ve got to go. Please send me.”

These were Garland’s words upon seeing the victims of the Oklahoma City bombings. According to the Washington Post, Garland spoke these words to his boss, Jamie S. Gorelick: “You need to send me there.” And she did. “We needed to send someone who could assure that the investigation was perfect,” Gorelick explained.

So many people who worked closely with Garland spoke about what set him apart. Some of those attributes include a demand for perfection — an unwillingness to compromise on this perfection. Garland was known for his workaholic tendencies, often staying late at the office, eating cereal for dinner as he methodically worked his cases.

“He’s brilliant — always has been,” said Garland’s friend Earl Steinberg. Reportedly, Garland has the ability to focus like a laser. A white-hot laser who conducted methodical investigations — drenched in silence. He is the man who now heads our Justice Department. I’ve always had faith in him. (And I’ve taken some heat for it!)

The reason for my faith in Garland is simple — in my opinion, he is incorruptible. Now that doesn’t mean I am saying Trump will definitely be indicted, go to trial, be found guilty, and sent to prison for all of eternity. But it does mean I trust him. And after his speech, you should too. Garland has said the January 6 investigation will not stop until everyone is held accountable.

Calling it “the most urgent investigation in the history of the Justice Department,” Garland vowed to bring all the insurrectionists to Justice. And he specifically says he won’t shy away from “political cases” or “sensitive cases.”

I hope these words soothe some of your fears. I hope you might perhaps read up on Garland if you’re unfamiliar with his extraordinary background. And I hope you will remember that the best investigations are the ones done with precision, with the quiet cunning of lions, and with steely and unwavering determination.
