So this blew up in Donald Trump’s face

Here’s the thing about Donald Trump and his regime. They’re not just extremist thugs and crass opportunists. They’re also morons โ and I don’t say that lightly. Trump and his people are so desperate to carry out their deranged agenda, and yet so bad at trying to do so. It’s happened yet again, in a truly humiliating way.
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem (five words that should never go together) gleefully announced that an undocumented immigrant had threatened to kill Donald Trump. Violent threats against the President of the United States are a regular occurrence, and while always wrong, one such instance of an immigrant doing so isn’t evidence of any larger pattern. And as it turns out, the whole thing didn’t even happen.
Now it turns out the letter was not sent by the undocumented immigrant in question, but by a guy who’s awaiting criminal trial for having beaten up and robbed the undocumented immigrant in question. In other words the whole thing was a frame job.
Here’s the thing. It’s apparently taken law enforcement almost no time at all to piece together that the threatening letter sent to Trump was a forgery. In other words it was a really clumsy forgery that fell apart under the slightest scrutiny. Yet the Trump administration, and the Trump appointed leader of the Department of Homeland Security, didn’t bother to do five minutes of investigation into this matter before loudly and incorrectly announcing that an undocumented immigrant had threatened to kill Trump.
Even worse, it seems pretty obvious that the guy who forged the threatening letter took a look at Trump’s overtly racist rhetoric about immigrants, and saw it as an opportunity to frame the immigrant he’d previously assaulted. This is why Trump’s attacks on immigrants are so dangerous. Trump appears to have incited this criminal to frame an innocent immigrant for a serious crime. We’re going to see more of this, unfortunately. All we can do is continue to try to protect the vulnerable.
