Senile lunatic Donald Trump just bombed Iran – and it’s not likely to go well for him

Moments ago Donald Trump announced on his social network that the United States had just bombed three nuclear sites in Iran. Trump says that the US is already out of Iranian airspace. Now we wait to see if and when and how Iran retaliates.

This comes after Trump spent the past two weeks making the same kinds of public threats that he’s always made and never followed through on. So what changed this time? Suffice it to say that, just a few months in, his presidency is basically over with. His approval rating is in the gutter. His agenda has stalled. Even his base has become divided about whether the U.S. should strike Iran. Trump is already a lame duck, and he – or whoever around him is steering him toward his dementia riddled decisions at this point – knows it.

And so the traditionally tepid Trump is now rolling the dice with a big swing. He’s clearly hoping the nation will at least temporarily rally around him now that the U.S. is unofficially at war with Iran. But this is a low percentage play for him. When a popular President takes military action, the American people tend to give them the benefit of the doubt. But when a deeply unpopular lame duck President takes military action, the American people tend to see right through it. And this move may finally cost Trump a large chunk of his own base.

The danger here is not that this bombing is going to magically save Trump’s presidency and make him strong. The danger is this idiot is bombing Iran. I don’t have to tell you all the ways that this can go wrong. Trump is going to attempt a speech at 10pm eastern time today. He’ll likely just lethargically stumble through a brief statement that his babysitters wrote for him, because it’s all he’s capable of at this point. Here’s hoping it won’t fool anybody.
