Senate Democrat comes out swinging

This weekend was a fairly dark chapter in modern memory: the assassination of Minnesota’s House Speaker along with her husband, which rendered that chamber unable to function, and another assassination attempt on a state senator, by a terrorist who was very clearly politically motivated and had a hit list with more prominent Democrats.
Trump supporters tried to sell the notion that the killer was a liberal, though a quick glimpse at his social media quickly dispelled that. Rather than try playing that up, Donald Trump decided to instead attack Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, who was also on the list.
Fortunately, Sen. Tina Smith, who was given heightened security in response to the attacks, has refused to back down. Instead, on Monday, she sternly rebuked Republican Sen. (and conspiracy clown) Mike Lee, who has of course dropped misinfo online about the killer as he does when it comes to just about anything with Democrats.
Although few will read the letter, she approached Lee in person and told him off for his reckless trolling – something he was visibly uncomfortable about. He didn’t expect any backlash in the real world, as unfortunately, most Republicans do not – and they’re out of their element when it happens. This is what Democrats need to do – face the GOP directly and make that the story – more so than the words they say.
