When the White House is on fire, the job of the White House Press Secretary is to convince everyone that there is no fire, or at least get everyone to focus on something other than the fire. Sarah Huckabee Sanders lies so effortlessly that there are times when she succeeds in muddying the waters. Today, however, things got away from her pretty badly.

Huckabee Sanders did a predictably tone-deaf job of addressing Donald Trump’s asinine comments about the Stoneman Douglas High School shooting. She then rather matter of factly lied her way through the questions about the Jared Kushner security clearance scandal. But then it came time to talk about the Trump-Russia scandal, which has set every inch of the Trump administration on fire in recent days.

When asked why Donald Trump is still breaking the law by refusing to implement sanctions against Russia, Huckabee Sanders served up what might be her worst answer to date. She claimed that Russia would have to do something wrong before Trump would be willing to implement the sanctions. Uh. wait a minute here. Just a few days ago, an American grand jury indicted thirteen Russians, many of them with strong ties to the Kremlin, for having conspired to rig the 2016 U.S. Presidential election.

The sanctions in question were specifically intended to punish Russia for having meddled in the election. Now that the meddling in question has been deemed legitimate by a grand jury, those sanctions are more crucial than ever. Instead, Donald Trump is still refusing to implement them, out of fear of his Russian puppet master Vladimir Putin. Sarah Huckabee Sanders is slipping when it comes to her efforts to BS us about these things.
