Donald Trump has involved a whole lot of his own people in his Ukraine scandal, and he’s exposed many of them to potential criminal prosecution in the process. It’s created a situation where, now that the whole ugly thing is coming out and no one can stop it, some of Trump’s people are trying to take the heat off themselves by publicly accusing each other of being primarily responsible for the scheme.

For instance, Rudy Giuliani – who admits he’s at the center of Donald Trump’s attempts at getting the president of Ukraine to go after Joe Biden – is now insisting that he was acting as an envoy of Trump’s State Department. Rudy even went on Fox News this week and held up his own phone, asserting that he has communications on there that prove as much. If this is the case, then Trump’s Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, or whoever gave Rudy his marching orders, is in deep trouble.

That’s why it’s not surprising that last night, the State Department decided to throw Rudy Giuliani under the bus, telling NBC News that it never asked Rudy to go on any mission to Ukraine. The implication is that Rudy was the ringleader, and that any State Department involvement was merely a result of Rudy pushing Donald Trump to drag various government entities into it.

We have no idea who’s telling the truth. Rudy Giuliani’s cellphone communications with the Trump regime are certainly going to be subpoenaed, and considering how confident he seems that he did nothing wrong, he just might immediately comply with it. One way or the other, the ugly truth will come out. In the meantime, Donald Trump’s people just keep throwing each other under the bus.
