CPAC has started its mournful convention, and it does not appear to be going well. One of the major priorities of many at CPAC appears to be insulting mask and vaccine requirements — as evidenced by their non-stop and hyperbolic diatribes. As far as what’s happening in Ukraine — well — to tell the truth, many at CPAC don’t seem to be concerned about a little thing like THAT.

Right-Wing nut-job Charlie Kirk, in fact, said the Ukraine situation pales next to the “invasion” of “undocumented immigrants.” Not much sympathy was offered for Ukraine. Indeed, the GOP seems much more concerned with using artificial talking points to gain sympathy from the drooling crowd about all their grievances. The world’s smallest violin is playing for them as we speak.

But the winner for the scummiest human being at CPAC (so far) is Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. Giving a speech that almost put Kimberly Guilfoyle to shame with its hysteria, DeSantis declared that “Florida has defeated Fauci-ism.” The non-speech by DeSantis was roughly 20 minutes in length, and I am just amazed that the CPAC folks were able to sit through it.

Ron DeSantis’s voice is literally like chalk on a blackboard, only far worse. And 20 minutes of that achingly squeaky voice — especially when it’s as loud as humanly possible — isn’t an activity for the faint of heart. DeSantis also took a few moments to brag about what a swell guy he is.

Never let it be said that DeSantis doesn’t love himself — and it appears he loves himself and his need for power far more than he loves any of his constituents. To sum up — as we watch the sorrowful and tragic situation in Ukraine play out, CPAC Republicans are doing what they do best — nothing. Oh — DeSantis didn’t mention Ukraine in his speech at all.
