Ron DeSantis is at it again

After he humiliated himself with an awkwardly inept presidential campaign, Ron DeSantis is off the national political stage, thankfully, for now. But DeSantis is still the Governor of Florida, which means he can still make a mess of things. Sure enough, he’s at it again.
After Donald Trump tapped Marco Rubio to be Secretary of State, it fell to DeSantis to appoint a replacement for Rubio in the United States Senate. Wild media reports previously had him appointing everyone from Trump’s daughter in law to himself.
But as often ends up being the case, after the bigger names made their way through the media, DeSantis ended up picking someone whose name isn’t widely known at all. Unfortunately, the pick is still an awful one. Today DeSantis picked Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody, an election denier, for the Senate seat.
Moody’s low national profile will allow her to avoid much scrutiny as she settles into Rubio’s Senate seat. That’s the danger in these situations. Because she’s not (yet) a household name, she’ll be able to get away with more nonsense than if all eyes were already on her. As always, we have to remain vigilant about these types.
