Donald Trump is having yet another rough day, as the impeachment era continues to get worse for him. For instance, former Trump National Security Council official Fiona Hill is testifying to the House impeachment inquiry as we speak, despite Trump’s best efforts to stop her. But now Trump is getting hit with some truly bad news – and the kind that can end his presidency.

Even though Donald Trump’s whistleblower scandal is a clear cut matter of right and wrong, in reality impeachment is a political process. House Democrats need the public to remain behind their impeachment efforts if they want to have any chance of actually ousting him. That’s why poll numbers are everything right now. In that regard, Trump just got hit with even more bad news.

A new CBS News poll says that 53% of Americans now approve of the House impeachment inquiry, which falls in line with other recent polls and helps confirm their legitimacy. The more important number from the CBS poll is that 63% of Americans think Donald Trump should cooperate with the impeachment inquiry.

This tells us that ten percent of Americans aren’t on board with the impeachment inquiry, but nonetheless think Donald Trump is wrong for trying to block the inquiry at every turn. It points to these people potentially getting on board with impeachment once they see Trump going even further to try to obstruct justice. If enough Americans decide they want Trump gone, Senate Republicans will have to do the math on whether their own personal chances of reelection are better or worse if they keep Trump around or get rid of him.
