Most people are closing out 2019 tonight by celebrating the new year, or by making resolutions, or other well-adjusted behavior. But not Donald Trump, who is coming off a phenomenally ugly year, and who is likely facing an even uglier year in 2020. He knows it too – and he’s primarily blaming Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi for his ongoing downfall.

Donald Trump spent New Year’s Eve tweeting this utterly deranged meltdown: “Remember when Pelosi was screaming that President Trump is a danger to our nation and we must move quickly. They didn’t get one Republican House vote, and lost 3 Dems. They produced no case so now she doesn’t want to go to the Senate. She’s all lies. Most overrated person I know!”

This is remarkable, considering Pelosi has bested Trump at every turn in 2019. If she’s somehow overrated, then that means Trump is far more overrated. Trump is also conveniently ignoring the part where Pelosi’s decision to hang onto the articles of impeachment is handing her more leverage over the Senate impeachment trial by the day.

The general rule is that losers whine. If Donald Trump is whining this obsessively about his ongoing battles with Nancy Pelosi, it means he’s acknowledging that Pelosi is winning. Of course it’ll be up to the American public in 2020 to help finish Trump off. Pelosi can’t do it alone. Phone banking, canvassing, volunteering, and voting for the eventual Democratic nominee are how we’ll take Trump down in the new year.
