One two punch

I often try to highlight any good news or positive developments that occur during the darkest of political times โ€“ not out of any desire for optimism, but because we can often use good news to our advantage. I have to tell you though, this week has not been one for good political news.

First the Supreme Court issued one of its most laughably unconstitutional rulings of all time, declaring that federal judges can’t issue federal injunctions. Now, while we’re not giving up the fight until the bitter end, it very much appears that the Republican Senate is going to pass some altered form of Donald Trump’s corrupt and disastrous “Big Beautiful Bill” (which we might as well refer to as “Big Bowel Burst” for all the crap it’s full of).

We’ve known since election night six months ago that there was going to be plenty of bad news like this, and plenty of weeks where the bad news felt like it was drowning out everything else that was happening. This is one of them. But I will point out that the Trump-GOP budget bill is polling as one of the most unpopular pieces of legislation of all time. So it’s something we can very much use against Trump and his party during the midterms.

By the way, the midterm elections are closer than you think. Later this year we’ll know which Senate races are going to be competitive. And by the new year we should have a strong sense of which House races will be in play. We’re almost back into the election cycle again already. It’s part of why Trump and the Republicans are trying to ram through the biggest piece of legislation they can come up with. They know that this may be their only chance.
