Bernie Sanders has spent the past few days seemingly intent on convincing Democrats that she shouldn’t be the nominee. On Sunday he appeared on 60 Minutes and praised Fidel Castro’s education policies in Cuba, setting off a nationwide firestorm, and drawing sharp rebukes from pretty much everyone in Florida. Then on Monday Bernie appeared on CNN and said something arguably even more ridiculous.

Bernie Sanders was asked again about Fidel Castro during his CNN appearance, and he once again doubled down on his partial praise of Castro. Then Sanders added this: “China is another example. China is an authoritarian country, becoming more and more authoritarian. But can anyone deny – I mean, the facts are clear, that they have taken more people out of extreme poverty than any country in history.”

Yes, Sanders really said those words. You can find them here. It would be one thing for Sanders to argue that China is getting some things right, even while being wrong for being communist. But he very much appears to be praising China for its communist economic policies. We suspect the Chinese citizens working for pennies an hour in hellish factory conditions would beg to differ.

Bernie Sanders has always voiced opinions this extreme, stupid, and inaccurate. It’s just that his most cult-like supporters have never cared, and the media has never scrutinized or vetted him, so his reasonable supporters out there don’t know they’re supporting an idiot. Look, there’s no doubt that Sanders would be far better than Donald Trump. But Sanders is screwing this up so badly, he’d stand no chance against Trump. The Democrats need to pick one of the actual Democrats as their nominee.
