No way is Kevin McCarthy off the hook
Please do not believe the false narrative of some in the media that Donald Trump has no ill feelings toward Kevin McCarthy about the leaked tapes. That is bullshit. Let me back that up with evidence. Here is what I think is going on.
Trump is indeed angry at McConnell. He must be because Kevin is the ultimate kiss-ass. And Trump — though he hates himself — also hates anyone who kisses up to him. He hides — or tries to — that aspect of himself, but we see it. He has nothing but contempt for his cringing supplicants.
He moves them around like frail little chess pieces, bending them, playing with them, and amusing himself at his will. Trump is the type that would pretend to be just dandy with Kevin — and then, like a rabid raccoon — turn on him when he least expected it.
Think about it. If by some horrible twist of fate we did lose the House — which we won’t — do you honestly think Trump will proudly come out for cowardly Kevin for house speaker? Of course, he won’t.
And there will be others — clamoring for their chance at power. And these others will not hesitate to use this against the glum train-wreck known as Kevin McCarthy. McCarthy also has the dubious honor of being stupid — very, very stupid. He knows nothing of psychological warfare and would not even see the battle coming.
So I’d say McCarthy’s House speaker-ship dream is over. That does not mean someone even worse wouldn’t step up to the plate. That’s why we must win in the midterms — and see the collapse of the thing known as the GOP for good.
