Nice try John Roberts

If you’re looking for one thing that encapsulates the absurdity of our current situation more than anything else, it just might be the fact that the federal court system is largely still legitimate except for the Supreme Court itself. How is it possible that the head is corrupt while body is healthy? In any case, the Supreme Court just struck again.

By now you already know that Elon Musk quit the Trump administration this week and then tried to burn it to the ground on his way out the door. Musk and Donald Trump are publicly feuding in such vicious fashion that there’s precisely zero chance Trump will ever let Musk back into his federal government position. Yet now that Musk is gone from DOGE, now the Supreme Court has suddenly decided that DOGE can have access to Social Security data.

For all of Chief Justice John Roberts’ proclamations that his Supreme Court is a non political entity, the court then goes and does something like this. Maybe this ruling was always going to come out yesterday. But after all the political moves that John Roberts has made in the name of trying to make the Supreme Court look non political, he doesn’t get the benefit of the doubt here.

And so now the Trump regime gets access to Social Security information but Elon Musk doesn’t. It sure looks like John Roberts has tried to thread the needle yet again to maintain his own power base, instead of simply making correct rulings and letting the politics land where it lands. Roberts wants us to believe that his Supreme Court is legitimate. Nice try.
