Back when then-Acting Attorney General Matt Whitaker was publicly testifying under oath before the House Judiciary Committee earlier this month, it was immediately obvious that he’d been caught committing felony perjury when he claimed he’d never discussed the investigation with Donald Trump. Palmer Report pointed out that this would give House Democrats complete leverage over Whitaker, and now that’s turned out to be the case.

Just days after Matt Whitaker’s testimony, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler sent Whitaker a public letter informing him that the committee had evidence he was lying. Significant time went by without a public response from Whitaker, yet Nadler didn’t publicly escalate his threats, so we were left to conclude that Whitaker must have been privately cooperating. Sure enough, Nadler made a major announcement this evening.

Chairman Nadler posted this tweet this evening: “I want to thank Mr. Whitaker for volunteering to meet with us to clarify his ⁦House Judiciary⁩ testimony.” In other words, Whitaker knows he’s busted. He’s afraid that if he doesn’t play along with the committee, Nadler will refer him for perjury, and he’ll end up indicted and arrested.

We don’t yet know whether Matt Whitaker intends to tell the committee the truth this time, or take another shot at trying to get away with lying. If he tells the truth, he’ll be incriminating Donald Trump for obstruction of justice in the process. If he lies again, he’ll end up in prison.
