Representative Jimmy Gomez became a member of Congress when he won the special election to fill Xavier Becerra’s seat, who became California’s attorney general. Gomez has sponsored and co-sponsored several bills. He takes his job in Congress very seriously, and he expects everyone else to do the same. When Gomez heard about Marjorie Taylor Greene’s now infamous Facebook posts, he began working on a resolution to oust her. We need more representatives like Jimmy Gomez in Congress not because he opposes Greene but because he seeks to do right by the people who elected him.

Greene has been trouble from day one. She refused to wear a mask on the floor as required, and when forced to do so, she either wore one that bore “Trump Won” or “Censored” on its front. Greene may think her antics cute, but many others see her as a disruptive, theory-peddling troublemaker. Videos of her stalking David Hogg, a survivor of the Parkland shooting incident, have surfaced, with her referring to Hogg as “little Hitler” and “coward.” Hogg is someone’s child — a child who survived a horrific event and has used that event to lobby for safer schools. Is this stalker of children and conspiracy theorist really who we need making decisions that impact our lives? How would she feel if some conspiracy nut stalked her three children? While Greene tried to explain her stalking activities, she should not be engaging in such conduct at all. There is no appropriate or excusable explanation.

As Politico reported, Gomez is not likely to succeed with his resolution, as expulsion of a House member requires a two-thirds majority, and few Republicans will sign on. Gomez does, however, have support from Florida Democrats Ted Deutch and Lois Frankel, the latter of whom was quoted by South Florida Sun Sentinel as saying, “many members of Congress are afraid to be in the building with her.” In her weekly press conference, Pelosi was livid that Greene has been assigned to the Education Committee: “When she has mocked the killing of little children at Sandy Hook Elementary School. When she has mocked the killing of high schoolers at the Marjory Stone Douglas High School.” Pelosi is correct. This appointment is a slap in the face to every child who has had to deal with school shootings. How dare McCarthy put her on this committee knowing full well how Greene feels about this issue? According to Greene, the shootings were all a setup to help Pelosi pass gun legislation. This alone tells you how serious Greene is going to be about her assignment.

What is Greene’s response to the calls for her ouster? She is merely another victim of “cancel culture,” as reported by Deseret News. Bullshit. No sane person spews the venom that comes from Greene’s mouth. No person who genuinely cares about the wellbeing of American citizens—especially children—says such inflaming, untrue, and ridiculous things as Greene. No, Greene is not a victim of cancel culture, but she needs to be canceled from Congress.
