Manhattan DA drags Kellyanne Conway into the fray in criminal indictment of Donald Trump
Even as we wait for Donald Trump’s indictment to drop any day in Fulton County Georgia, and DOJ Special Counsel Jack Smith continues closing in on Trump, the Manhattan District Attorney now appears to be aggressively pursuing a criminal indictment against Trump as well. Those stakes just got higher.
The Manhattan DA has now met with Kellyanne Conway, who was a higher-up in the Trump 2016 campaign at the time Donald Trump illegally used campaign money as part of his effort to cover up his affair with Stormy Daniels, according to the New York Times. Conway could be a crucial material witness due to the knowledge she would have had of Trump 2016 campaign operations at the time.
Michael Cohen, who played a key role in the scandal, has already publicly stated that he’s been meeting regularly with the Manhattan DA team about the Trump campaign finance fraud case. The DA has also reportedly already put Trump Organization executive Jeffrey McConney and former National Enquirer boss David Pecker in front of the grand jury. And now Kellyanne Conway is apparently being added as an additional witness, which matters greatly, because the odds of conviction at trial go up every time yet another “friendly” witness testifies that the defendant did commit the crime.
Given that Kellyanne Conway famously has a history of consistently not telling the truth, some folks may be concerned that she’ll “just lie” in this investigation. But in a grand jury situation, witnesses only face two options. They can tell the truth, or they can get caught lying and end up in prison themselves. So unless you think Kellyanne is willing to go to prison for Trump, there is every reason to expect that – if only for the most selfish of self preservation reasons – she’ll tell the truth about Trump’s crimes.
