Allow me if you will to tell you a story. Once upon a time, there was a political party. They were called the GOP — Grand Old Party. They lived a long time ago. The GOP no longer exists. Their fire was extinguished when they made a choice to abandon their constituents and follow treachery into the black and unlit hole of betrayal.

Their remnants still remained but only now they were scorned. They were known as a cult comprised of petty and scared runts, little more than tired shadows of who they once were. But in the festering gloom of the cult, one light refused to be turned off. That is the light of Liz Cheney.

Many refuse to give Cheney credit for anything. I will because Cheney is one of the few Republicans who has not crossed over to the dark side. And that matters.

Speaking about her work, Cheney had this to say: “I believe this is the most important thing I’ve ever done professionally, and maybe the most important thing I will ever do. People need to understand how dangerous he is and how unfair for the office he is.”

I believe Cheney and agree with her. How wonderful it would be if the entire world did what they knew to be right, not what they felt they HAD to do. As I have said, I’d never vote for Liz Cheney. But I salute her. I salute her because she is the last glue holding the mangled carcass of the GOP together. They don’t get it. Perhaps they are doomed never to get it.

But Cheney gets it. She understands the power of a ‘higher calling.” She understands that some situations are bigger than just one person. And she is putting her love of country above her own personal ambitions. Do you know how rare that is at all, let alone in politics? So, this is Liz Cheney’s last stand. She will be fine no matter what happens, for she has honor.

But this is her last stand to save the party from itself. They have not listened so far. If they persist in their blinders, I believe they will go the way of the Whig party and, in the future, will be just a footnote. But not Liz Cheney. Because she loves this country, and her name will be spoken — with admiration for decades to come.
