Donald Trump’s bad day just keeps getting worse for him. On the day Senate impeachment trial proceedings formally got underway, he’s still dealing with the fallout from Lev Parnas’ bombshell interview on MSNBC last night. Now Lev has appeared on CNN tonight and shared new details of his interactions with Trump – in particular with regard to Trump’s corrupt firing of U.S. Ambassador Marie Yovanovitch.

Lev Parnas appeared on CNN with Anderson Cooper tonight, and revealed that he personally told Donald Trump information he didn’t like about Ambassador Yovanovitch: “I told the President that our opinion that (Ambassador Yovanovitch) is badmouthing him – and that she said that he’s gonna get impeached – something like that. I don’t know if that’s word for word.” Trump then turned to his underling John DeStefano and said “Fire her. Get rid of her.”

This doesn’t appear to be the moment in which Yovanovitch actually ended up getting fired. This suggests that Trump’s handlers knew that firing Yovanovitch was a corrupt act that could blow the lid off Trump’s Ukraine scandal, and that they initially declined to carry out Trump’s order to fire her, as a way of trying to protect Trump from himself.

Interestingly, John DeStefano resigned from the Trump administration on May 24th of 2019 – four days after Ambassador Yovanovitch was ultimately fired. It’s not clear if his departure was related to Yovanovitch’s firing. But it is clear that DeStefano needs to be called as a witness in the impeachment trial.
