Last night was terrible for the Democrats – but it also proved Donald Trump is toast

Part of me wishes the Republicans would actually put Donald Trump on the ballot in a 2022 House or Senate race, just so liberal activists would stop whining about the Democrats, and start doing their job of steering people toward voting for the Democrats.

Of course what’s remarkable about last night is that the Republicans in Virginia and New Jersey managed to outperform by at least nominally running away from Trump. Sure, the Republican candidates in those two states are just as awful as Trump. But they (especially Youngkin) did everything they could to keep him at arm’s length, for fear that being seen as aligned with Trump would cost them votes in the middle.

So in reality, the Republicans are now faced with a situation where they have to try to (at least verbally) run away from Trump, because he’s just that toxically unpopular with mainstream voters. It’s proof of just how non-viable Trump is going forward. And yet far too many liberal pundits are still trying to convince us that Trump is going to magically take over in 2024, when even the Republicans understand that he’s cooked.
