Just how badly is Donald Trump’s post office gambit going for him? Even his allies like Kevin McCarthy and Marco Rubio are admitting that it’s time to re-fund the post office, because they don’t want to get stuck taking the heat for post office closures.

With Trump’s Postmaster General having agreed to testify before the House, and the House now demanding that he testify within a week, time is running very short on Trump’s post office stunt. He’ll soon cave on post office funding, and try to get some kind of unrelated concessions back from the House. Yet now, even with the post office gambit quick unraveling and near its end, people on social media are suddenly noticing red locks on blue post office mailboxes in various cities.

In a general sense, the red locks are nothing new. The post office has been strategically using them for years to stop attempted vandalism. It’s not immediately clear if the spike in red locks being reported on social media represent an actual spike in red locks being implemented, or if it’s just a matter of people noticing the locks more now that the post office has been scandalized.

But if the Trump regime is now placing a bunch of extra locks on mailboxes, it’s merely one last attempt at scaring you into believing he’s killed the post office and magically rigged the election, so you’ll give up and stop fighting. In reality, he’s lost the post office fight and he’s about to cave. Keep fighting and we’ll win this one. This isn’t “optimism.” It’s just an observation of the facts at hand.
