Today is election day. I don’t think I need to remind any of you to vote. I probably don’t even need to remind you to encourage those around you to go out and vote today. If you’re reading this, you’re the cream of the crop in terms of political activism and political enthusiasm. You’re already working hard at this. You know the stakes and I don’t need to remind you of them.

Instead I want to take a moment to simply say this: thank you. I’ve been at this for nine years. I’ve written this daily morning column for more than three thousand days in a row. Many of you have been here for years. Some of you have been here from the start. Much as I wish we were in the kind of perfect world where my services and analysis weren’t necessary, the reality is we’re in this together. All of you have given purpose and meaning to my efforts. Otherwise I’d have spent all this time merely shouting into the abyss.

To answer your question, yes, I think we’re going to win. That’s as specific as I’m going to be with my predictions, because at this late date there’s not much point. We’ll start seeing actual results early tonight, and more meaningful results later tonight. I don’t know when the election will be called. But why make last minute guesses when we’re about to start seeing what reality looks like? We’re likely about to see a woman President and the end of Donald Trump. Talk about turning the page.

In that sense today’s morning column does feel like the end of a long chapter. But don’t worry, I’m not going anywhere. I’ll be here with you throughout the election week process. And even after we win this election we’ll surely have new political battles to tackle and parse and fight and win. The good fight never ends. Now let’s go win this.
