In one of my first articles on Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman, I compared him to a dolphin. This comparison might initially seem unlikely – until one gets to know Senator Fetterman. Thankfully Palmer Report readers got it. They understood the comparison.

Fetterman, like the dolphin, is playful. We saw that in his brightly entertaining run for Pennsylvania Senator. He kept us laughing even while showing us how very serious he is. And like the dolphin. Fetterman is smart. Dolphins are some of the smartest of our outdoor friends. So too is Fetterman, one of our smartest senators.

And so many besmirched him. Republicans were infuriated when their candidate, Mehmet “New Jersey” Oz, lost. But to me, it was inevitable. Nobody could beat Senator Fetterman. His arrival to the Senate had an air of inevitability to it.

And now here he is. He’s only been back at the Senate for short time since leaving Walter Reed. And he is wasting no time. Because John Fetterman showed up Republicans, and he did it brilliantly.

The GOP and McCarthy, in particular, have raised the bright idea of cutting SNAP benefits. I guess they’re trying to lose the next election. But Fetterman wasn’t having it: “Cut SNAP for families and kids while pushing tax cuts for billionaires? Not on my watch.” Applause.

Fetterman, in those few words, exposed the grift that is the GOP. I was speechless when I came upon this story. The man (Fetterman) just has IT – whatever “IT” is. And I will say something else. Someday, not in 2024 but in years to come, a new bench of democrats will seek to run for even higher offices than the Senate and House.

I think Fetterman has a VERY bright future ahead of him. Not only is he relatable, but he has this effortless way of connecting with people. There is the dolphin comparison again. Dolphins, too, have this connection. Dolphins are often used in therapy with autistic children because of their joyous way of connecting with people.

Fetterman is “real.” People look at him, and they see themselves. His future is bright. In the meantime, welcome back, Senator Fetterman. Welcome back to where you belong.
