When Pete Buttigieg dropped out today, he didn’t specifically endorse Joe Biden. But it’s pretty clear that he dropped out ahead of Super Tuesday in the hope of shifting electoral math in Biden’s favor, so that Biden can defeat erratic extremist Bernie Sanders for the democratic nomination. Pete is young and rising, and deserving of a promotion. This led to “Secretary of Defense” trending on Twitter today, due to the sheer number of people speculating that Biden could pick Buttigieg for the job.

The reality is that if a humble and unifying figure like Joe Biden ends up being the nominee, he could end up filling out his administration with a unity ticket and an all-star team of highly talented people. Imagine Kamala Harris as Attorney General. Or if Harris ends up being the running mate, imagine Adam Schiff as Attorney General. They both have the kind of prosecutorial background needed to clean up the DOJ and put Donald Trump in prison. But that’s just the start.

How about Amy Klobuchar as Secretary of State? She’s got the diplomatic skills to pull it off. There are several cabinet positions that Elizabeth Warren would excel at, if she’s willing to leave the Senate. For that matter, while Bernie Sanders probably wouldn’t want to leave the Senate to become a cabinet member, if Biden is the nominee then the Democrats will likely take the Senate – thus making Sanders the Chairman of the powerful Senate Finance Committee.

Of course these are all merely permutations of what’s possible. There’s no guarantee that all of these people would even want the jobs. And of course when taking a Democrat out of the Senate, you have to make sure it’s a situation where they’d be replaced by another Democrat, not a Republican.

But the bottom line is that if the broadly popular Joe Biden ends up being the nominee, the Democrats won’t just win the presidency. They’ll win the House and likely the Senate. And Biden is the kind of guy who will put together a unity ticket and a team of all-stars. It’s becoming more clear by the hour what that team could look like.
