Donald Trump, the Republican Party, and Fox News love pushing the fictional narrative that Joe Biden is infirm and in hiding. Part of it is an attempt at belittling Biden for behaving responsibly during a pandemic. The other part of it is an attempt at deflecting from Trump’s visibly worsening cognitive collapse. Then there is the overall media feeding frenzy about Biden’s running mate selection process.

This morning Joe Biden managed to turn all of the above on its ear. Biden went for a bicycle ride, and he happened to go right past Steve Doocy and a Fox News camera crew in the process. Doocy asked Biden if he’s picked a running mate. Biden said “yes.” Doocy asked who the pick is. Biden said “you.”

It was the kind of made for television moment that’s immediately gone viral. It’s funny and surreal enough that even Fox News is airing it. In the process, the media is now showing Joe Biden riding a bicycle through mountain roads and cracking witty jokes. So much for the notion that Biden is ill or senile.

Now try picturing Donald Trump riding a bicycle or being remotely witty, and it becomes clear why this viral moment is so effective for Joe Biden. He played Fox News like a fiddle.
