Earlier this week, Donald Trump began blowing up his Twitter account, babbling about his crowd in El Paso being larger than the crowd that came to march with Beto O’Rourke. He tweeted: “So, we have 35,000 people tonight. And he has 200 people, 300 people–not too good. That may be the end of his presidential bid.”

Trump even claimed that the El Paso Fire Department allowed them to admit more people than allowed in the 6,500 seat arena, which we all know fire departments would NEVER do. Trump is merely doing what he does best: lying. The Independent debunked Trump’s claims by speaking directly with fire officials in El Paso, who confirmed that only 6,500 were allowed inside the arena. Officer Enrique Aguilar shared, “it might be 10,000 with people outside” but pointed out that they did not track the people outside the event.

Even as Trump doubled down on his lies, estimates show that Beto O’Rourke’s rally drew between 7,000 to 8,000, and Jennifer Epstein of Bloomberg estimates that attendance was actually in the 10,000 to 15,000 range. As is the norm for Trump, he continued to tell this lie to reporters, and Donald Trump Jr, who loves to back up his father’s lies, took to Twitter with the same lies.

Once again, the Trumps show that what they do best is lie to obscure the truth about illegal immigration in an attempt to get what they want: a vanity wall. Conversely, O’Rourke intended to set the record straight and did just that by relying on the very statistics that Trump continues to pretend don’t exist, all in his effort to continue his reign of terror.
