Here’s the thing about the midterms

As we gear up for the 2026 elections, Democrats got a rare bit of good news on Monday when Gov. Brian Kemp of Georgia ruled out a senatorial bid. It’s rare that success as a governor translates to success in winning a Senate seat in the same state – as we saw Larry Hogan lose decisively in November, despite being a very popular governor of Maryland. That said, however, Georgia’s demographics are a bit different than Maryland, with both Democratic and Republican voter registrations being roughly equal in number, even as the state grows more diverse in the Atlanta suburbs.

Jon Ossoff remains a popular senator – who is also a sharp and decisive leader – and it’s absolutely critical that we put all of our focus into reelecting him for a second term. There’s a great deal of speculation that Marjorie Taylor Greene is eyeing a run and a good chance that she may become the Republican frontrunner if she does.

This, however, does not necessarily mean we’ll win handily should she get the nomination – as the race is likely to come down to single digits regardless of who Sen. Ossoff faces. Bear in mind that Sen. Warnock also faced a difficult re-election battle against an opponent who was a clown. Let’s get to work and give Ossoff a breakout win as we work to retake the Senate in 2026.
