Here’s the thing about Joe Biden

As some of you have pointed out, I haven’t yet written anything about President Joe Biden’s cancer diagnosis. If I’m being honest, it’s because I was still trying to figure out what to say. There are so many angles involved, so many emotions, such heartbreak, and it only serves to somehow make what happened in November hurt even worse. But now I’m going to say some things.
First of all, life can be cruel. Joe Biden got to be the President of the United States, Vice President of the United States, and a Senator for his beloved Delaware. He got to be the most powerful person in the world. He got to use that power for good. History will be kind to him. And yet he’s also a guy who had to bury his wife and daughter and son even as he’s had to endure his other son’s struggles. And for his efforts, what did he get? The media made up fake stories about him having advanced dementia, forced him out of his reelection bid, and now he’s suddenly got an aggressive form of cancer to deal with. How can life be that unfair?
And yet Joe Biden is likely finding a way to, somehow, take this latest setback in stride. He was known as the happy warrior for a reason. When you’ve been through what he’s been through, you probably have to start looking for the good in every situation. He’s spent decades trying to defeat cancer on a national level. Now he has to try to defeat cancer on a personal level. His prognosis isn’t great. But if anyone can beat this, it’s Joe Biden.
Joe Biden didn’t deserve this. Come to think of it, I’m not sure America deserved Joe Biden. The guy was an utterly fantastic President who turned around a collapsing country, saved its economy, and rebuilt its infrastructure. And yet a majority of Americans couldn’t see through the media’s lies and see the real Joe Biden? America didn’t know how good it had it. I wonder how many Americans now wish Biden were still President, even with his current health crisis. Either way, Biden’s legacy is secure. When it comes to America’s legacy, the jury is still out.
