Earlier today a scheduled court hearing took place regarding the long-running subpoena battle between Special Counsel Robert Mueller and an unidentified foreign government-owned financial institution. Palmer Report warned you that this hearing would be surreal, because the court battle is continuing even though Mueller and his investigation are finished. Even we didn’t know it would end up being this alarming.

Federal prosecutors showed up to court to represent the government during this hearing, and according to multiple major news outlets, they revealed that Robert Mueller’s grand jury is “continuing robustly.” Wait a minute here. This means that not only is Mueller’s grand jury still intact, it’s definitely not wrapping up or winding down or anything of the sort. Grand juries only have one purpose: to hear evidence for the sake of criminally indicting people. That means the indictment process is still ongoing, regardless of how William Barr is trying to spin things.

So how is it possible that Robert Mueller is “finished” with his investigation, and his team is being disbanded, and he’s filed a “final” report about his investigation, if his grand jury is still actively moving at full force toward additional potential indictments? Something is very wrong here โ€“ or at least something is very wrong when it comes to our understanding of what’s going on here.

There are seemingly only two plausible explanations here. The first would be that Robert Mueller decided that now was the time to get his report about Donald Trump into the hands of House Democrats, so they could proceed with hearings and/or impeachment accordingly โ€“ and he made the decision to hand off all of his ongoing investigations under the assumption that Donald Trump might have him fired once he saw how damning the report was.

The second and darker explanation would be that Donald Trump had William Barr force Robert Mueller to prematurely end his investigation, because Trump and Barr feared that Mueller was about to hit the jackpot with this particular subpoena battle, on in some other way. Considering that Barr is now trying to suppress Mueller’s report, and actively trying to mislead the public about the report’s nature, we’re increasingly inclined to suspect that this second explanation might indeed be the case. Something isn’t right here โ€“ and it appears this is just getting started.
