Good news for the Democrats

On Tuesday, New Jersey held its gubernatorial primaries, being one of two reliably blue states that holds its race for governor just a year after the presidential election. Democrats had a rather crowded field but Mikie Sherrill was elected overwhelmingly – a Navy veteran and congresswoman who joined Congress in 2018 during Trump’s first midterm.

Among the pressing issues of the race was the question of which candidate was best equipped to stand up to Donald Trump, but Sherrill was the only one on the stage who actually had the distinction of doing so. She was instrumental in his first impeachment at the end of 2019, understanding what was at stake when Trump held Ukraine’s aid for ransom.

She’s also one of a number of pro-national security Democrats, hailing from the same congressional freshman class as now Sen. Elissa Slotkin and former rep Abby Spanberger, who is currently running for governor of Virginia. Both of these are crucial states to protect – keeping the governorship in New Jersey blue while flipping Virginia when Youngkin’s term expires this year. Let’s get both of these women elected on Nov. 4 – so donate, phonebank, or canvass if you can and let’s start building momentum against Donald Trump and the corrupt Republican rule, towards midterm victories in 2026.
