God don’t like ugly

Could Donald Trump be setting up his excuse for a small turnout at his inauguration? Everyone knows how much those numbers mean to him, but if they’re small through no fault of Trump’s, well, he gets an “out.” Of course, others do acknowledge that it is supposed to be very cold in D.C. on January 20, but many presidents have withstood the cold. Remember Bernie Sanders’ mittens? It was 20 degrees that morning, and warmed up to a “balmy” 24, yet the inauguration was held outside. Trump, however, isn’t having it. He has officially moved his inauguration inside.
During his announcement of the change on Friday, he said: “I don’t want to see people hurt, or injured, in any way.” Non-Trumpers think Trump is just being a baby. AlterNet discussed other inaugurations, including former President William Henry Harrison’s, where he died from pneumonia one month later. President Barack Obama’s second inauguration was hit with a 15-degree wind chill, but it eventually rose to 28.
The temperature for Trump’s inauguration is supposed to be in the teens, which is certainly cold, especially if winds contribute, but many are using it as excuse to poke fun at Trump. Democratic strategist Jon Cooper posted the infamous frozen gif of Jack Nicholson and wrote: “The weather forecast for Washington, DC is predicting brutally cold temperatures-in the low teens-on Inauguration Day. Good.” Another Democratic strategist, Andy Suchorski wrote: “Soft and old Trump can’t handle a little cold.” The jabs continued with Jeffrey Levy asking: “How can he take over Greenland if he can’t even handle 20-degree weather?” Former RNC chairman Michael Steel chimed in with: “So much for crowd size.” According to University of Maryland professor Dr. Jen Goldbeck: “The forecasted temperature is just a few degrees colder than Obama’s 2008 inauguration (28 degrees) which was held outside. It would make the MAGA crowd really mad if the narrative around this becomes Trump is too weak to handle the cold.” Hey, if the narrative fits, Trump has to wear it.
Trump is a wimp. There’s no doubt about that. But others believe as first stated in this article, Trump doesn’t want to whine about his crowd size. Moving the service inside negates that, as the Capitol Rotunda will hold only so many people, unlike an outside venue that has almost unlimited space. Many people will be disappointed, including some who have already made the trip to DC. The Wall Street Journal quoted Robert Clark, who drove from Carpentersville, IL, to attend the inauguration. “We came all the way out here for this-we’re still going to make the best of it.” Instead, Clark will be attending a Sunday night event.
Trump’s inauguration turned into a fiasco as his people tried to figure out how to get people to witness the inauguration, including featuring a livestream at the Capital One Arena, which holds 20,000, and staff trying to figure out tickets. Call it the cold, call Trump a wimp, but I call it one of my favorite sayings: God don’t like ugly.
