Considering how well the Democratic National Convention had gone this week, and how poorly things have been going for the other side, all that Joe Biden had to do tonight was to deliver a solid, competent acceptance speech at the end of it all. Instead Biden’s speech ended up being his finest hour to date.

It’s no exaggeration to say that this was the most moving, empowering, passionate, commanding, soulful, perfect speech of Joe Biden’s five decade career. America has been dying of thirst for leadership, and tonight America finally got that leadership by the bucketful. It sets up the Biden-Harris 2020 campaign with incredible momentum coming out of the convention, and it leaves Biden’s opponent struggling to figure out how to get attention. Other thoughts on the big night:

– Joe Biden just quoted Kierkegaard. Joe Biden’s opponent just misspelled “overall.”

– Props to Joe Biden for not letting the republicans goad him into hiding his son Hunter Biden.

– Sarah Cooper just keeps getting better.

– Don’t ever mess with Tammy Duckworth.

– The emotional roller coaster of the John Lewis tribute, then the comfort of having Elijah Cummings show up partway through it, then realizing he’s gone too.

– This is Joe Biden’s finest hour. He’s the leader we need. Now let’s go make him President of the United States.
