Ever listen to a person talk and have a shadow cross your path along with a jolt of alarm? And a little whisper inside you murmurs: “This is not a good person.” The subconscious knows so much more than many give it credit for. The subconscious is our own personal alarm system. And like any alarm system, it goes off when bad people cross its path.

It happened to me. It happened when I first heard the voice of Ron Desantis. DeSantis is a bad man, is what my internal alarm said. And millions of others likely experienced something similar. DeSantis is a bad man, not just because he’s an utterly shameless politician who will do anything for power.

He’s also bad because it seems he will do anything, period. And I do not believe it’s just for power. DeSantis is starting to come under fire from his own party. More and more republicans seem to be getting squeamish about the squeaky-voiced Floridian.

This is because Ron won’t stop picking fights with people. But a new bill he’s got behind is extreme even for him. This bill would loosen libel laws around reporters and journalists, making it much easier to sue them.

The director of advocacy for the Freedom of the Press is Seth Stern. And he says that he thinks this new legislation DeSantis is proposing violates the constitution. The Constitution’s First Amendment protects the freedoms of the press and free speech.

“I have never seen anything remotely like this legislation,” Stern exclaimed. That is likely because there’s never BEEN anything like this. And I am going to say something provocative. I disagree with the people who say DeSantis is doing this to win the presidency.

The personal characters of many often have a nasty little way of surfacing given enough time. I think Ron’s motivation is because he doesn’t give a damn about freedom — period. I think even if the presidency were not up for grabs, he’d be doing this anyway. There is a fundamental iciness to the man’s psyche that honestly doesn’t care about anyone and anything except himself.

In DeSantis’s world, if he doesn’t like something, it should be eliminated. Period. But fortunately, Desantis’s popularity is already starting to crater. Most agree this is a bridge too far. And the fact is that under all that iciness, under that dismissive and condescending exterior, the fact remains that Ron DeSantis is an oaf.

He’s a goofy man, trying to pose as a cool one. He’s like that kid at school who would do anything to rise above everyone else. And his unpopular opinions are just another reason he will be remembered as the moron he is.
