Even for Donald Trump this is unhinged
At the time I’m writing this, Donald Trump (fortunately) still has yet to take any military action against Iran. It’s looking more and more like this is indeed what I suspected it was, which is just one big and dangerous distraction from all the bad news that Trump is flooded with each day. His poll numbers are in the gutter, his tariffs are a disaster, his trade deals never happened, and yes, he’s very very very very very mentally incompetent.
Even though Trump is supposed to be focused on pretending he’s attacking Iran right now, he’s finding himself more unable than ever to stick to his own script. Yesterday Trump ended up giving a speech about how the 2020 election was rigged against him. Nothing new, of course. Except this time Trump blamed the whole thing on “China and the license plates.” He went on to claim that these Chinese license plates voted against him in 2020 and that’s why he lost. There are two things at play here. First, Trump obviously has severe and likely end stage dementia. Second, Trump’s worsening dementia and long running psychoses are causing his worldview to be increasingly based on incoherent paranoid delusional conspiracy theories. This is the point where a psychiatrist would put the patient on anti psychotic medication and hope that the rest of his rapid decline is at least peaceful. But it’s unlikely that Trump, who relies on the kinds of doctors who pretend he weighs 239 pounds, is getting anything close to the treatment that an advanced dementia patient like him needs.
