Elon Musk’s DOGE just blew it again

Hi it's Bill Palmer. Support my renewed effort to stop Donald Trump. Donate $5 now.

Nearly everything we, the American people do is contingent on what our meteorologists have to tell us that day. Will it be sun and fun out? Clear skies? Or will it be damp and rainy? Will snowflakes come pouring down, or will it be breezy but clear? Or will it be even worse than that? Will a hurricane rear its ominous head, riding through the clouds to wreak havoc in certain states, gutting, ripping, and tearing apart?

Well, that’s the point. We don’t really know because the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has been gutted, and according to reports, all they have now monitoring the weather is a “skeleton crew.” Thank you, DOGE. It seems Musk, Big Balls, and whoever or WHATEVER else lurk behind DOGE’s secretive walls do not think the weather is really all that important. Numerous reports have suggested that this year’s hurricane season could be worse than ever.

Now, the best way to predict future action is by past action. And past action clearly shows that Trump’s administration doesn’t give a damn. If you will, remember North Carolinians and how desperate they were for help. Remember too the lies told about FEMA, how so many turned away from help, scared to death over the FEMA conspiracies that MAGA Republicans had started,

Now, Meteorologists are speaking out and expressing deep concern. They told CNN they’re quite worried that “life-saving warnings won’t be out in a timely way.” We need to take this very seriously. Meteorologists are some of our most brilliant people. They know weather like the back of their hands, they know weather like the Trump family knows crime. So yes, they are to be taken seriously.

Trump and his band of thugs do not take them seriously. Natural disasters have the potential to be crippling. During these horrific North Carolina storms, a friend of mine was forced to evacuate and go to another state. That’s the thing. Few remain untouched by inclement weather. Even if YOU’RE not affected, I bet you know someone who HAS been. It happens all over this country and takes different forms in different states. Still, it has the potential to do real damage, be it in a hurricane, tornado, blizzard, or tropical storm.

The Earth is our sanctuary, and what a breathtaking one it is, too. But we must treat it as we would any living thing — with caution, thoughtfulness, and humanity — love it, nurture it, and take good care of it. The National Weather Service is heading into hurricane season with inadequate coverage, and many field offices lack the people they need because of the DOGE cuts, because Trump and Musk would rather stamp on this earth than tenderly love it.
