Donald Trump’s dysfunction junction

When someone is elected who has a different political ideology than you, but is still an honest public servant who’s looking to help the country, you root for that person to be as competent as possible. Even if you’re not going to get the things you want out of that politician, you at least want to see the country remain functional.
But when someone is elected who has a psychotic political ideology, and is a corrupt criminal, and is trying to burn it all down, you root for that person to be as incompetent as possible. After all, if they’re trying to do awful things, your best hope is that they’re not very skilled at doing those awful things. The more often they step in it, the more angles there are for you to try to stop them.
This brings us to Donald Trump and his regime, which we knew from day one would be the most unhinged, corrupt, and anti-American regime of all time. Fortunately, it’s also quickly proving to be the most dysfunctional, incompetent, and easily distracted regime of all time. I say that with no hyperbole. We’re only six weeks in, and the Trump regime’s various initiatives have already been overruled by the courts dozens of times. There is already a bitter power struggle between the unelected Elon Musk and Trump’s cabinet, which is spilling over into the media and forcing Trump to keep announcing that they’re all getting along swimmingly. And in their quest to fire as many people as possible, they keep mistakenly making the kinds of moves that allow the average Americans to see how stunningly incompetent they are.
Even as all of this dysfunction plays out in embarrassing fashion, this regime is also proving to be jarringly aloof. Even as the Trump regime is falling apart in a dozen ways, Trump’s most recent social media post is a split screen between him and Elvis Presley. The clear implication is that he looks like Elvis, even though the split screen is with fat Elvis, and Trump still looks bloated and withered in comparison (if you’re 78 years old, don’t compare your face to that of someone who died at 42). Why is Trump busy comparing himself to Elvis? The image was most likely posted by Trump’s babysitters, in an effort to make him feel good about himself. Amidst all this chaos, Trump is so deep into a dementia-fueled funk that his henchmen have to waste time trying to cheer him up with nonsense.
And so dysfunction reigns supreme. So be it. It’s better than the alternative of Trump and his regime being highly competent in their evil ways, which would allow them to get away with it a lot more easily (and, shudder to think, perhaps even remain popular). As things stand, Trump and his regime are ineptly giving us new openings at every turn for slowing him down โ and he’s quickly becoming historically unpopular. Our job, as I see it, is to keep exploiting these openings at every turn.
