Donald Trump just got caught with his pants down

If I may borrow a lyric from the great Simon & Garfunkel, if indeed the “words of the prophets are written on the subway walls and tenement halls,” one such sentence that must be included is: “Our President is a liar!” Indeed, I do not doubt those words are written in MANY places. Donald Trump just told perhaps his biggest lie. Allow me to tell you about it with the weary cynicism of the truly unamazed.

The setting was Truth Social. The words written THERE were written by a liar, one of the worst liars since his lies are so easily debunked. He said gas prices “are now down to $1.98 a gallon.” Pause. Has the felon gone mad? Has he finally and thoroughly lost it? This is so easily disprovable that it is no wonder the man managed to make himself a laughing stock all over social media.

People wasted no time at all pulling out the statistics. The American Automobile Association charts gas prices, and according to them, there is not ONE state where gas prices are even CLOSE to being that low. Regular unleaded — $3.18 a gallon CNN’s Daniel Dale: “Trump keeps making up has prices.”

Do you know something? If one wants to see how little regard Trump has for the American people, this statement tells one everything they need to know. When someone lies in pathological ways to people, it only underscores the contempt in which the liar holds the ones he is lying to.

Trump also thinks we’re stupid. He thinks he can get one over” on us. This should infuriate the American people that the senile liar thinks so little of them. And Trump can’t get one over on us. Indeed, Trump’s the one who someone got one over on — Hannibal Lecter for making the felon believe he’s a real person.

Even CBS waded in to fact-check the claim, calling Trump’s claims “untrue.” Politifact said simply, “False.” And people laughed and laughed and laughed. There is something wonderfully freeing about laughter, wonderfully ebullient about the trills of and the chuckles , like early morning bird songs, they are.

Trump is helping us in his rabid dishonesty. Because he is fooling fewer and fewer people, this latest “fill her up” lie is easily disproven in all the neon signs at every gas station in the country, none of which I promise you say $1.98 a gallon. If Trump’s got his mouth open, he’s lying, and more and more and more and more people see that.
