Donald Trump just failed again

Much of the Trump administration’s actions lately have been to divert us from the disastrous fallout of a trade war that Donald Trump provoked for no real reason other than he could. Now, at the 100-day mark of Trump’s presidency, we’re seeing everything come into the fold together, with clear majorities of voters being opposed to his stance on immigration (even if the support of is still somewhat high), and just about everything else, while his stand on the economy comes back into focus.

A whole lot of MAGA’s goal has been to be an America that makes the rest of the world bow down to the US, so threatening to renegotiate terms that America has had with its allies (ones that Trump negotiated already in his first term), seems like a logical step to his base. Unfortunately, our position in the world changed considerably from the good old days that most Trumpers pretend to remember and places like Europe and China have a lot more leverage.

Keir Starmer, the moderate British Prime Minister, has seen an opportunity in the long wait, following Trump’s walkback of most of his tariffs. Nearly a decade after his country was hard-hit by Brexit, he decided to strike a free trade deal with the European Union, in direct defiance with Donald Trump – one that will be unveiled during a summit next month. The initiative is just another embarrassing compilation that the Trump administration likely never thought of, as the rest of the world once again unites together against him – and draining more of the leverage he was hoping for.
