Donald Trump is confused

Just how poorly are things going for Donald Trump? After the Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped two thousand points in two weeks, his Treasury Secretary appeared on the stock market channel CNBC early this afternoon to try to stop the bleeding. As soon as he was done speaking, the Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped another hundred points.
It’s clear by now that an increasingly brain-addled Trump no longer has any idea what he’s doing or how anything works. Like a stubborn dementia patient, he’s got it in his head that “tariffs” are the magically simplistic answer to everything, and nothing can change his mind. He’s not been swayed by every economist in the world. He’s not even been swayed by the disastrous results he’s seen over the past six weeks.
Trump tried speaking about the economy from the White House today. But instead of inspiring any confidence, he ended up telling Americans that they’ll “have to” live with the results of his trade wars. So why is he even doing this? He can’t give that answer, because he doesn’t know the answer. He’s now announced and then revoked his tariffs against Mexico so many times for no apparent reason, it’s hard to keep track. This is not the behavior of a negotiator or even a con artist. It’s the behavior of a dementia patient who’s confused about what he’s trying to do.
The real problem is that Trump is too far gone to listen to anybody, and too far gone to be able to process the results of his actions. His trade wars are making him less popular with Americans by the day. He’s costing himself his political muscle for no reason. But when your brain is that rotted, nothing you say or do has any reason.
