Donald Trump is caving already

On Tuesday, Trump threatened a rollout of massive tariffs against both Canada and Mexico – Americaโs staunchest trading partners. Unfortunately, both countries were well-prepared for anything Donald Trump might threaten – and theyโve likely been for the last four years at least. Thatโs why the threat of tariffs against Mexico went away completely by late Monday and Canada announced a pause for 30 days on any potential tariffs that were planned to hit red states that supported Donald Trump much more severely than the states that did not.
Donald Trump and his people are of course going to take a victory lap over what happened, but donโt let any of his supporters off the hook in doing so. Better yet, you yourself shouldnโt feel any relief over the tariffs becoming yesterdayโs news – because, in part, thatโs what the Trump regime wants you to do, getting power by making you believe that they saved you from the worst of what they threatened to do in the first place.
No – Donald Trump is weak and he caved. Thatโs the only messaging you need to carry for the next month. He folded to Mexico and Canada, the two countries he said have been abusing the United Statesโ trust for years without getting anything in return. Canada is just doing everything it did to enforce their border – with just adding a fentanyl czar position – which likely only makes Prime Minister Trudeau and his party look better if it does anything at all. It doesnโt matter what his supporters – regardless of their degree of support – say after that. Donald Trump is weak and incompetent, and letโs let the headlines for the next four years do the work to fill the rest of that narrative.
