Donald Trump spent the first half of Labor Day hurling insults at labor unions and their leaders. But after he got done making a mockery of the national holiday, he moved on to ranting about his own criminal predicament. This time around he finally acknowledged that two of his GOP allies have recently been indicted, and it revealed something about the fall back strategy that he’s now forced to rely on.

Last month Republican Congressman Chris Collins, the first member of Congress to endorse Donald Trump, was indicted and arrested on insider trading charges. Then Republican Congressman Duncan Hunter, the second member of Congress to endorse Trump, was indicted (along with his wife) on campaign finance fraud charges. In each case there’s certainly enough publicly available evidence to warrant these actions, which is why a grand jury voted to indict in both instances. But don’t tell that to Trump, who just now figured out that this is all a problem for him.

Trump hosted this bizarre rant: “Two long running, Obama era, investigations of two very popular Republican Congressmen were brought to a well publicized charge, just ahead of the Mid-Terms, by the Jeff Sessions Justice Department. Two easy wins now in doubt because there is not enough time. Good job Jeff. The Democrats, none of whom voted for Jeff Sessions, must love him now. Same thing with Lyin’ James Comey. The Dems all hated him, wanted him out, thought he was disgusting – UNTIL I FIRED HIM! Immediately he became a wonderful man, a saint like figure in fact. Really sick!”

To be clear, Donald Trump is lying about President Obama having anything to do with this. So now we know that Trump can no longer even figure out how to argue that his GOP allies, as they continue to be indicted and arrested, are innocent. Instead his official position is now that it’s unfair that his criminal friends, whom he now seems to be acknowledging are guilty, are being treated like criminals. This will be the same argument he makes when he’s eventually ousted, indicted, and arrested on an array of criminal charges.
