Donald Trump gets desperate, calls sudden “general news conference” at Mar-a-Lago

Donald Trump is falling behind in the polls, he’s fallen way behind in fundraising, he has no momentum to speak of, and his running mate is out there making a fool of himself. Even as this has all been playing out, Trump has been curiously sitting at home and doing nothing. The media and the public are starting to ask serious questions about why Trump is in hiding.

So now Trump is making what feels like a desperation move. He posted this on social media this morning: “I will be doing a General News Conference at 2:00 P.M. at Mar-a-Lago, Palm Beach. Thank you!”

Okay, so what’s going on here? Trump’s post has led to a lot of speculation on social media that he could be announcing that he’s replacing JD Vance or that he’s dropping out. But I think the words “general news conference” give away that Trump is simply looking for attention. His people have sidelined him from the campaign trail ever since he spent his Atlanta rally complaining about all the empty seats, and now he’s forcing his way back into public view.

This should be a complete dumpster fire. Trump is desperately looking to bring attention back to himself, while also presumably trying to make it look like his campaign is still functioning. But Trump will have nothing of any substance to say, and his handlers probably aren’t particularly involved in this, so Trump will likely just end up going completely off the rails.

And that’s fine, if that’s what he wants to do. Kamala Harris has the lead and all the positive attention and momentum. If Trump wants to briefly interrupt that so he can make things even worse for himself, then by al means, please proceed.
