Democrats just won another red state election

Polls have been swinging rather generously in our direction over the last few weeks, suggesting Vice President Harris is heavily favored to win on Nov 5 – but even more important than polls, is getting a taste of how people are voting right now.

Much of the 2024 primary season is over, and there are only several special elections scheduled to take place between now and Election Day, but so far, they’ve been showing the same consistent trend that we’ve seen in 2023 and throughout most of 2024 – Democrats outperforming their expectations. On Tuesday night, Democrats won and won big in a city primary deep in the heart of…Tulsa, Oklahoma – which hasn’t elected a Democrat to be mayor in 18 years.

The race uses a jungle primary of sorts which is nonpartisan and the top two finishers go to a runoff in November. This time around, two Democrats finished first – Karen Keith and Monroe Nichols – with the Republican candidate only getting 31.8% of the vote. This means, regardless of who wins on Nov 5, Tulsa, one of the few Republican-run cities (only one of 10 GOP-led cities out of the nation’s 50 biggest cities), will have a Democratic mayor next year. None of this is to suggest even remotely that the state of Oklahoma is in play in November – but it shows that we have the money and momentum very much still on our side – along with the issues that clearly resonate with people – and that our hard work is being rewarded.

It even suggests that evening out the margins in rural areas, Sen. Jon Tester could pull through in Montana and help Democrats keep the Senate. This means that if we keep putting the work in, we can make a difference in the closest elections this year. Let’s do everything we can to make Kamala Harris our Madam President-elect and give her a Democratic trifecta she needs to govern. Donate
