Special Counsel Robert Mueller has spent most of his testimony today simply referencing his own report, which documents a double digit number of instances of Donald Trump committing obstruction of justice, but doesn’t actually label them “obstruction of justice.” But somewhere in Mueller’s testimony he made a crucial admission that confirms Trump did indeed obstruct justice.

Democratic Congresswoman Val Demings asked Robert Mueller if the lies told to him by “Trump campaign officials and administration officials impeded your investigation.” We were all expecting Mueller to simply refer to his report. Instead he said this: “I would generally agree with that.”

The question was technically about Donald Trump’s underlings, so in a court of law, there would need to be proof that Trump instructed them to tell these lies. But the fate of Trump’s presidency will be decided by the court of public opinion, where every reasonable person understands that Trump’s underlings would only lie to the Special Counsel if Trump told them to.

This is crucial because it completely blows Donald Trump’s “no obstruction” mantra out of the water. Not only did Robert Mueller start things off by confirming that he never reached this conclusion, he’s now confirming that Trump did obstruct justice.
