Back when Donald Trump first took office and began posting dangerously unstable missives on Twitter, Palmer Report began referring to them as “meltdowns.” We took some heat for this, as some in the media thought it was “hyperbole” or “sensationalism” on our part. But it turns out we were merely ahead of our time, because now prominent members of Congress are using the same terminology to describe Trump’s latest, well, meltdowns.

This morning Donald Trump posted this profoundly weird and largely inexplicable tweet: “Republicans on the Homeland Security Committee are wasting their time. Democrats, despite all of the evidence, proof and Caravans coming, are not going to give money to build the DESPERATELY needed WALL. I’ve got you covered. Wall is already being built, I don’t expect much help!”

There is, of course, no evidence that the wall is already being built, and Trump has no basis for claiming that he now somehow has the funding covered. Nor is it clear why Trump shut the government down for five weeks, and is threatening to do so again, if he already has his wall funding “covered.”

In any case, Congressman Hakeem Jeffries, the Chairman of the House Democratic Caucus, ripped into Donald Trump in what we might call Palmer Report fashion: “This guy is having a complete meltdown. Please, stay out of the border security negotiations. Let the adults handle grown folks business. And don’t expect a dime for a medieval border wall.” Remember, kids, we were calling out Trump for his “meltdowns” before it was cool.
