Sometimes actions speak louder than words. And it is often essential to learn from said actions. The actions of CNN viewers have sent a message. It is loud and clear. The message is a red-hot, steaming alert to the network. But will they heed the call of this message?

According to numerous reports, the ratings for CNN have not just dipped — they have plunged into the abyss. How much so? Well — it depends who you listen to. According to some outlets, Post CNN has seen a rating dive of 90%. Others say it is 80%.

No matter. Either one is astonishing. CNN is not just having a bad time of it. I’d say this most definitely signals a bit of an emergency for the network. Bad decision-making has done this to them. And judging from what I’m seeing, they’re continuing on their merry way to wrecking their own network.

There have been many bad decisions. One of them was losing Brooke Baldwin. She was one of the best they had. Apparently, though, CNN was sort of oblivious to that. Then there’s Chris Cuomo. I won’t get into the weeds on whether he should or should not have been fired. But I can say that he brought in ratings for the tired network. The charisma Cuomo brought literally leaped off the screen. So it would stand to reason that CNN would have replaced him with someone equally appealing.

No such luck. In fact. CNN hasn’t replaced him at all. Instead, they have had substitute anchors. This has not gone well for them. Michael Smerconish was one. Michael seems a pleasant guy but not suitable to replace Cuomo. There have also been rumors that Jake Tapper would replace Cuomo, which would be a disaster.

One cannot replace a vivid dolphin with a wooden sloth. Throw in CNN’s apparent determination to “both sides” virtually everything, and you have a petri dish of mistakes for the failing network. So let this be a lesson for CNN. Heed the actions of your viewers and start making changes — or there might not be a CNN network left.
