After it was reported yesterday that anti-abortion Senate Herschel Walker had once paid for an abortion, he denied it. Then his formerly supportive son Christian Walker began ripping him to shreds with one tweet after another calling him a liar and a terrible father. After these kinds of things happen, sometimes everyone involved then goes silent, and sometimes they escalate. It turns out this one is escalating.

Christian Walker has tweeted a pair of videos today, following up on last night’s tweets, and eliminating any possibility that his tweets last night were the result of a hack. He’s explaining that he only publicly supported his father’s campaign at the outset because he was promised that his father would come clean about his failed personal life and take accountability for it. He’s also insisting that he could have ended his father’s campaign from day one, and pointed out that he’s not the one putting dirt out there about his father, he’s simply pushing back against his father’s lies about his mother:

Christian Walker is also defending himself today from a Newsmax host and other right wing pundits who are attacking him for supposed disloyalty to his father’s campaign.

It’s not clear precisely where this will go from here, but things are certainly still escalating. Herschel Walker seems to oblivious to reality to figure out that the best move for his own legacy and family would be to simply drop out and disappear. And it would be too late for the Republicans to replace him on the ballot anyway. Even with all this chaos, Georgia’s status as a purple state means Walker will likely automatically get 45% of the vote based on party line voting alone – so this could still very much be a close race. If you don’t want Walker in the Senate, now is the time to donate to the reelection campaign of Democratic Senator Raphael Warnock.
