Donald Trump, for reasons known only to him, has decided to visit fire-ravaged California on Saturday. No one wants him there, he hates the liberal state as much as it hates him, and his visit can only end up getting in the way of the ongoing firefighting and recuse efforts. Trump tried to explain his upcoming trip to Chris Wallace during a Fox News interview, and let’s just say that the whole thing went less than optimally.

In a clip posted online, Chris Wallace asks Donald Trump about the reason for his visit. Trump’s response: “Just to see the firefighters. Nobody’s ever seen what’s going on over there.” Wait, what is that even supposed to mean? He’s planning to go “see” the firefighters who are still busy risking their lives trying to contain the fires? That can’t possibly turn out well. Then it got worse.

Trump began rambling about the reported death toll from the California fires, seemingly confusing confirmed deaths for the number of people who are missing but not presumed dead, in a reminder that he’s always the most clueless about what’s going on. Then he blurted out “burned beyond recognition, they can’t even see the bodies.” He’s supposed to be the consoler-in-chief right now; why on earth would he say something like this?

Chris Wallace asked Donald Trump to acknowledge that climate change contributed to the severity of the fire, but all Trump could come up with was “Maybe it contributes a little bit.” Trump then went on a familiar rant about how “forest management” is needed, which best anyone can tell, consists of cutting down forests and developing the land for personal profit. It’s unclear why Trump is going on this trip, after having blown off so many recent presidential events, even as Robert Mueller is closing in on him and his family.
